The market, an institution...
For over 700 years, every Thursday morning, the whole little town comes to life, market traders unpack their wares and the streets overflow with colours and aromas. Early morning, with the first rays of the sun, regular customers stroll around the stalls, chat to traders and local residents... The market gradually gathers momentum, starts bustling, the sun peaks and warms the streets...
The market extends from the town hall right up to the historic central square of the bastide. Here, you will find a wide range of local produce as well as an array of other products...
The Dordogne River’s side channel
To make navigation easier on the Dordogne, a choice communication axis for Southern Périgord since the Early Middle Ages, the Canal de Lalinde was dug between 1838 and 1843 between Mauzac and Tuilières. Locks, catchments, aqueducts and lockmasters’ houses were built along the watercourse.
However, with the arrival of the railway and roads, inland waterway freight transport decreased and the canal fell out of use.
Today, its potential is being promoted. It has become a highly-popular fishing and walking spot.
Explore the 15 km of towpaths and discover this great civil engineering achievement in lush, natural surroundings.
