Beneath the remarkable vaulted cellar ceiling of the Petite mission are exhibited nearly 60 bronze and plaster sculptures, created between 1929 and 1973 by Constantin Papachristopoulos (Athens 1906 – Paris 2004), also known as Costi. This pupil of Bourdelle was among the representational sculptors of the 1st half of the 20th century who declared their independence, not only from the expressionism of Rodin but also from the modernists who revolutionised art at the turn of the century. From the warm stone of the cellar rise portraits full of sensitivity and pieces that can be read as an homage to the feminine form.
