Originally built in 1137 by the Viscount of Bezaume, Duras is one Aquitaine’s most important “Castel-Naou”. Classed a Site Majeur d'Aquitaine major tourist site, the château we see today was built in 1308 by Bertrand de Goth. Occupied by the English in the Hundred Years’ War, the fortress was completely changed by the Durfort family, who turned it into an extravagant, luxury home during the Age of Enlightenment. The basement houses a museum with a display showing how rural life in the region has changed over the centuries.

The Château de Duras houses a collection of archaeological objects, as well as a display showing how rural life in the region has changed over the centuries.
